A common migration scenario we are asked to help with is from GoDaddy hosted Office 365 migrating to a new clean Office 365 Tenant. GoDaddy have lots of customers, and many of them use their branded Office 365 plans for their business.

This is convenient from a billing perspective, but customers soon start to hit some of the constraints from using the GoDaddy version of Office 365. Many features are locked down, such as Federation with other Office 365 Tenants, or Azure Conditional Access policies to have a more custom MFA solution.
GoDaddy do not make it easy to move away from their Office 365 offering, as your email domains will be registered to their Office 365 Tenant. You cannot register your email domains on a new “clean” Office 365 Tenant without de-registering it from another Office 365 Tenant first. The timing of this step is crucial. More importantly, you need to know where to find the hidden configuration section within GoDaddy to de-register the domain name, and you need to do this safely, without locking yourself out of the GoDaddy Office 365 Tenant.
